'Dark Knight Rises' Trailer Hits The Net!

Clip offers glimpse of villain Bane in action while Liam Neeson's Ra's Al Ghul resurfaces in voiceover.

In exactly one year and two days, the Dark Knight will rise for the last time under the direction of Christopher Nolan.

Fans flocking to the cinemas over the weekend to see "Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows, Part 2" were lucky enough to catch the first teaser trailer of "The Dark Knight Rises," the final installment of Nolan's Batman trilogy. But now the official trailer has hit the Internet, teasing an apocalyptic conclusion to the beloved series.

The latest clip appropriately teases the two elements of "The Dark Knight Rises" that have fans already so riled up. First off, a voiceover by Liam Neeson's "Batman Begins" character, Ra's Al Ghul, implies the connection to the first Batman movie that moviegoers have long suspected.

"If you make yourself more than just a man, if you devote yourself to an ideal, then you become something else entirely," he whispers. "A legend, Mr. Wayne, a legend."

When we last saw Batman, he was going into hiding after the destruction caused by the Joker and Two-Face. But the Batman must rise, and in new footage from the trailer, it's Batman's old friend, Commissioner Gordon, who asks him to do so. "We were in this together, and then you were gone," says an incapacitated Gordon, played by Gary Oldman. "And now this evil rises. The Batman has to come back."

"This evil," the second key trailer element, seems to imply Bane, the new "Dark Knight" villain played by Tom Hardy. Several shots of Bane are mixed in with the final moments of the trailer, a follow-up to the previously released photo of the man who broke the Bat. Among these images is also the first shot of Christian Bale as Batman in "The Dark Knight Rises."

The final look in the trailer — Gotham City's skyscrapers crumbling down in a shape of the Bat symbol — hearkens back to the poster released last week. It certainly seems to imply that Gotham City might be destroyed while the Dark Knight does rise.

There are still several characters left unseen, though, including Anne Hathaway as Catwoman and Joseph Gordon-Levitt and Marion Cotillard in presumed there-must-be-more-to-it-than-that roles. The Neeson voiceover opens up a whole new can of worms when it comes to the theory that Cotillard is actually playing Ra's Al Ghul's daughter, Talia Al Ghul, though whether that concept comes to fruition remains to be seen.

What do you think of the first "Dark Knight" trailer? Tell us in the comments!

'Harry Potter' Star Emma Watson Will Be Back Onscreen Soon

'My Week With Marilyn' and 'Perks of Being a Wallflower' are the first two post-'Potter' projects Watson lined up.
By Terri Schwartz, with reporting by Josh Horowitz

We hope Emma Watson has already digested her post-"Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows, Part 2" brunch. Because now that she's finished the project that virtually defined a decade of her life, the actress has plenty to look forward to.

The 21-year-old starlet did just a few non-"Potter" acting roles during her time with the franchise, only separating herself from Hermione long enough to star in the 2007 BBC film "Ballet Shoes" and lend her voice to 2008's "Tales of Despereaux." Now, she has wrapped her first two post-"Potter" films and is excited for people to see her outside of a "Harry Potter" capacity.

Up first is the Michelle Williams-starring adaptation of "My Week With Marilyn," based on Laurence Olivier's assistant's account of spending time with Marilyn Monroe (Williams) while she was filming "The Prince and the Showgirl." Watson plays a character named Lucy who goes on a few dates with leading man Eddie Redmayne. It's a minor role for a small film (which is slated for release this November), but it's garnering a lot of attention because of Watson's involvement.

"I've seen a trailer for it. It looks pretty amazing," Watson told MTV News at the 2011 MTV Movie Awards. "I mean, Michelle is an incredible actress, and Eddie Redmayne is also in it, so he did a great job."

But her upcoming film that's getting the most buzz is the Summit Entertainment adaptation of Stephen Chbosky's coming-of-age novel, "The Perks of Being a Wallflower." Watson plays Sam, the love interest of main character Charlie (played by Logan Lerman). It wrapped shooting several weeks ago, and Watson told us at the Movie Awards that the expectation was to turn it around and get it released quickly.

"It's so funny because I never thought I'd make another sort of high school-esque movie, and here I am in this coming-of-age, American teen [movie]," she said. "But it's very witty, and it's very funny and it's very moving, so I'm excited."

HTC shares fall 6.5% after Apple patent ruling

HTC's shares fell 6.5% on Monday after a preliminary ruling by the ITC found the Taiwanese company infringed on two of Apple's patents. To stave off further damage, HTC will buy back 20 million of its own shares before September 17th.

HTC's shares have fallen steadily in July over concerns about the immediate financial prospects of the company. Investors see HTC slipping in the smartphone market and fear the company may be forced to pay a large lump sum to Apple. HTC confirmed it will appeal the ITC ruling and will defend itself against Apple "using all means possible." A final ruling by the ITC in this patent infringement case is due on December 6. HTC is also facing a similar patent infringement lawsuit filed by Apple in the U.S. District Court in Delaware.

Cali Swag District Call M-Bone Setup Rumor 'Crazy'

'It really hurts us,' C-Smoove says on 'RapFix Live.'
By Rob Markman, with reporting by Sway Calloway

"RapFix Live" with Cali Swag District
Photo: MTV News

Since the shooting death of Cali Swag District's Mante "M-Bone" Talbert in May, rumors have swirled while his loved ones search for answers. Rumblings of jealous rivals and gang activity have surfaced, but what bothers CSD the most is a rumor that suggests the group's surviving members had something to do with Bone's death.

"[There's] nothing we can do about the rumors," Yung said on Wednesday's "RapFix Live." "We can talk like we're talking right now because it ain't gonna change anything, but once it comes to the light, then we can breathe."

C-Smoove called the setup rumor "crazy." "We made it together. We've been knowing that dude since we were kids," he said. "It really hurts us and our label and the team. How could you believe something like that when we did everything together?"

The setup theory is particularly baffling for the group, who emerged as stars from their Inglewood, California, neighborhood thanks to their 2010 hit single "Teach Me How to Dougie."

"We succeeded together, we got out the 'Wood together. We had fun all the time, everything we did was to have fun because that's what we do," Smoove said. "We wanted to have fun and give the people what they wanted. And for people to think something like that, it's just mind-boggling. How could you figure?"

Yung added: "It's crazy. We think about that all the time, like, how could you even think something like that? We're family, we're brothers. So we want the rumors to just stop."

Sound off about the M-Bone rumors in the comments below.

'Harry Potter' Star Daniel Radcliffe: What's Next?

Other than Broadway and the horror film 'Woman in Black,' Radcliffe is a free agent.
By Terri Schwartz, with reporting by Josh Horowitz

The release of "Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows, Part 2" may end a chapter for leading man Daniel Radcliffe, but that only means the rest of the entertainment world has opened up for him.

Up next, Radcliffe has the horror flick "The Woman in Black," which he recently finished filming in the U.K. The story is markedly different from "Harry Potter," with Radcliffe playing a grieving father investigating mysterious occurrences in a sleepy British town. The actor told MTV News that he is attracted to these sorts of dark tales because he finds something much more interesting about them.

"I don't want to make a boring love story about two people who meet and then are happy. That's boring, and that doesn't exist," Radcliffe explained. "I also do like playing slightly disenfranchised characters like Arthur is in 'The Woman in Black.' He's someone who's grieving and whose grief has put him to the edge of madness and also has sort of made him ostracize himself from society. I guess I like the dark stuff. I find it more interesting."

So don't expect a romantic comedy to be on Radcliffe's list of projects to conquer. With his schedule packed for the next few months while he's on Broadway performing in "How to Succeed in Business Without Really Trying," Radcliffe doesn't have any other announced future-film commitments. But we expect once "The Woman in Black" hits theaters in January that Radcliffe will explore a variety of other genres.

That probably won't include another "Potter"-sized franchise, though, the 21-year-old actor admitted.

"I think that we proved in doing 'Potter' that you can bring integrity and perpetual growth to a franchise. It doesn't have to be a law of diminishing returns after the first film comes out," Radcliffe told MTV News on the "Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows, Part 2" NYC red carpet. "Providing a script is good enough. I would absolutely do another, but it's not something I'm looking for in the next couple of years, certainly."

TUAW's Daily iPhone App: Captain America: Sentinel of Liberty

The new Captain America movie is scheduled to hit theaters next week and in advance of the film, Disney and Marvel have released a brand new game based on the superhero himself. And the good news is, it's not bad.

Movie tie-ins have a history of mediocrity, but Captain America actually tries some new things, not only in terms of being a licensed title, but also in being an iOS action platformer in general. You play as Captain America, of course, and the game plays out like the iOS version of Mirror's Edge from a little while back: 2D platforming action gameplay with 3D graphics. The Cap can throw his shield (duh), slide, and even pull off combo attacks and platform jumping just with a few simple swiping gestures.

It's surprisingly deep, and there's a lot to do over 24 different levels (featuring an original story written by a real Marvel writer). Unfortunately, the game is definitely a premium title, so if you have anything less than an iPhone 4, the graphics may not hold up (and there are some iTunes comments to tell the tale on that one). But I've seen this title a few different times during its development, and I'm impressed with how far it's come -- this is a solid title, with plenty of content, that really makes some new connections between the touchscreen and the action platformer genre.

Captain America: Sentinel of Liberty isn't based on the movie itself (no spoilers). It is available right now from the App Store as a universal version for US $4.99.

<lyrics>

I can hear the wind a blowing in my mind
just the way it used to sound
With a Georgia pine
You were there to answer when I called
You and me, Lord knows we had it all

Remember how I used to touch your hair
While reaching for the feeling, that was always there
It was the best thing in my life I can recall
You and me we had it all

I know that we can never relive those times again
So I let these dreams take me back to where we've been
And I'll stay there with you just as long as I can
Oh it was so good, yes it was so good
Oh it was so good when I was your man

Oh I'll never stop believing in your smile
Even though you didn't stay, it was all worthwhile
You're the best thing in my life I can recall
You and me, Lord knows we had it all
I can hear the wind a blowing in my mind
You and me, Lord knows we had it all.

'Harry Potter' Finale Cheat Sheet: Everything You Need To Know

Before saying goodbye to the series, check out our handy guide.
By Terri Schwartz

Daniel Radcliffe in "Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows, Part 2"
Photo: Warner Bros.

It all ends Friday (July 15), as "Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows, Part 2" marks the last time a "Harry Potter" movie will premiere in theaters. Almost a decade ago, MTV News was writing about how "Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets" had beaten Eminem's "8 Mile" at the box office and about the exciting news that Gary Oldman, known as Count Dracula at the time, had joined the cast of "Prisoner of Azkaban."

Our news coverage of "Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows" began three years ago with the announcement that the big-screen adaptation of the final "Potter" novel would be split into two movies, and it's strange to think that after all that time the film series has finally come to an end. To honor all the time we've spent covering "Deathly Hallows, Part 2," we're taking a trip into the MTV News archives to cover the entire history of the flick for our latest MTV News cheat sheet.

Filming the Final Parts
MTV News caught up with leading man Daniel Radcliffe in late 2009 when the cast was knee-deep in shooting both "Deathly Hallows" films, and he said that the set was "absolutely madness." That makes sense considering the combined running time of both movies is around five hours and they feature some of the most emotional and climactic moments in the entire series. Radcliffe dreaded shooting the big scene where he walks into the forest to face Voldemort, while Tom Felton was really looking forward to filming the epilogue. When he finally did shoot the scene, Felton was lucky enough to have his real-life girlfriend Jade Olivia play his onscreen wife. But it was the final battle sequences that were most emotional for co-stars Evanna Lynch and Bonnie Wright, the former of whom was brought to tears by the scenes on set. Robbie Coltrane agreed with them, saying that they were among his favorite scenes in the movie. Composer Alexandre Desplat was chosen to create the score for the final film, and he chatted with MTV News about his creative process. Finally, on June 14, 2010, filming on the "Harry Potter" set wrapped for the last time.

The Decision to Shoot 3-D
But production wasn't done yet. In keeping with the popular cinematic trend, the creative team behind "Deathly Hallows" decided to post-convert the film to 3-D. Producer David Heyman spoke to MTV News during 3-D week and said he was optimistic about the change, adding that he thought the films would be "even more epic" in 3-D. "Deathly Hallows, Part 1" didn't end up getting converted in time, so "Part 2" marks the first time a "Harry Potter" movie has been released entirely in 3-D. There is also the hope that all the "Harry Potter" films could be converted to 3-D and receive a re-release.

Getting the Epilogue Right
Radcliffe, Emma Watson, Rupert Grint and the cast of young stars who played the next generation of wizards were brought together again months after filming ended to reshoot the pivotal epilogue scene because the original scene that was filmed was not considered to be good enough. Felton was lucky enough to have his first time filming be done up to par, though, so he and Olivia did not have to shoot a new scene. A few other new stars, including Kelly Macdonald of "Boardwalk Empire," were cast in roles that had to be added in post-production and became the final few castmembers to join the "Harry Potter" franchise. An early cut of "Deathly Hallows, Part 2" was screened to fans in February and was received well, reducing many viewers to tears. Radcliffe's response to that news? "Good!"

The Trailers Arrive
The first "Deathly Hallows" trailer hit the Web on June 28, 2010, and it teased both of the final "Harry Potter" installments. It would be 10 more months before a trailer specific to "Part 2" premiered, and then new trailers came fast and furiously. Warner Bros. released one of the opening scenes from "Deathly Hallows, Part 2" back in April, and then MTV was able to premiere an exclusive clip from "Part 2" during the 2011 MTV Movie Awards that was received well by fans.

Saying Goodbye to "Potter"
The "Harry Potter" films have been released over the course of a decade, so it's no surprise that the stars of the franchise are finding it hard to say goodbye. Watson planned on having a "really big brunch" after the last New York "Potter" premiere, while Grint walked out of the London premiere screening because the movie was too emotional for him. But the man finding it hardest to say goodbye is Radcliffe, who plays the series' namesake. "I think that we proved in doing 'Potter' that you can bring integrity and perpetual growth to a franchise. It doesn't have to be a law of diminishing returns after the first film comes out," Radcliffe reflected to MTV News.

Janet Jackson Thrills Fans With Greatest Hits, Michael Tribute At Radio City

Singer covered songs ranging from classic 'Pleasure Principle' to 2008's 'Feedback' at New York show.
By Vaughn Schoonmaker

NEW YORK — Often imitated, never duplicated, Janet Jackson's outbursts of meticulous choreography, sassy exclamations and smoldering gazes into the audience kept them on their feet for the entire two-hour set of her greatest hits at Radio City Music Hall. Monday night marked the last of three sold-out shows at the historic venue on her monumental Number Ones: Up Close and Personal Tour.

Up-and-coming boy band Mindless Behavior opened the show with songs including "#1 Girl," "Future" and their debut single, "My Girl." With their Usher-esque dance moves and shouts like "Where the ladies at?" the boys brought the tween girls out of hiding, judging by the shrill screams escaping various corner of the music hall.

At 9:00 sharp, the lights went down and Janet's fans were on the edge of their seats, watching music videos for "The Best Things in Life Are Free" and "Rhythm Nation" projected on big screens across the venue. A small shadow drifted toward center stage, and when the colorful lights came up, Jackson, wrapped in a shoulder-padded catsuit, complete with slick short hair, blasted into "The Pleasure Principle," dancing as hard and intensely choreographed as she did when the song first came out in the 1980s.

With barely a spare second between songs, Janet dazzled her way through her biggest hits, including "Miss You Much," "All for You" and "Nasty," and more recent hits like 2008's "Feedback."

Videos displayed during Jackson's costume changes included vintage clips from "Diff'rent Strokes," a funny scene from "Poetic Justice" where Jackson slyly rejects the advances of Tupac Shakur's character, and a rather heavy scene, as Jackson's character in "Why Did I Get Married" destroys her husband's house with a golf club, screaming hysterically.

Considering the tough couple of years the Jackson family has faced, the dark moments in the video seemed fitting, and everyone was beside themselves with bittersweet joy when Michael Jackson's face popped up on the big screen and she performed their hit single "Scream."

Janet emerged for her encore in a tight white one-piece disco suit, and performed "Diamonds," "Make Me" and "Together Again," which appeared to be the biggest hit of the evening. As Jackson graciously bowed out, her straight face transitioned into a smirk, suggesting that despite the hard times she has experienced recently, we can expect to see this singing and dancing pop legend shine far into the future.

"Its amazing!" Janet fan Elena Mercantini gleamed afterward. "It's like she's still 20 years old!"

"She's hot, she's amazing and she's still got it after all these years" added Alison Klinger of Long Island. "Best concert I've ever been to!"

'Harry Potter' Fans Gush Over 'Deathly Hallows, Part 2'

'It's really hard to say bye,' one fan tells MTV News.
By Terri Schwartz, with reporting by Brian Phares

"Goodbye, childhood."

Those two words, which one fan left behind for director David Yates during an early screening of "Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows, Part 2," probably describe the sentiment felt by many Potterheads after they walked out of Thursday night's midnight screenings.

MTV News took to the streets to find out what viewers thought of the final installment of the epic film franchise, and the response was as overwhelmingly positive as the critics'.

"I feel like it was a worthy completion," said one fan, who was clad in a Gryffindor sweatshirt. "From the start it just grabs you by the neck and takes you along for the ride, and really for the last film, you can't ask for anything more."

His female friend agreed, saying, "It's really hard to say bye," before becoming choked up.

The tears were shared by both the male and female fans interviewed after the screenings of "Deathly Hallows, Part 2." It's a sentiment that even the "Harry Potter" stars felt, though leading man Daniel Radcliffe was glad to hear the movie got the fans choked up as well.

Favorite scenes in the film ranged from seeing Harry surrounded by all his loved ones to Neville Longbottom's epic scene with a certain snake. One girl in Slytherin garb said she was glad that the Weasleys didn't disappoint this time around, and particularly liked seeing Harry and his friends defending Hogwarts in the movie's final act.

"It was bittersweet to see it end because it encompassed so much of my life," one female fan shared with MTV. The man she was with agreed. "It was everything you could want to cap off, in our lifetime, one of the greatest film sagas ever that I've experienced," he said.

"It's not one of those things where I'm sad that it's ending, because I know it's not really going to end," another fan said. "But at the same time I know it's like closing the final chapter on my childhood."

'Harry Potter' Expected To Smash Box-Office Records

'Deathly Hallows, Part 2' could break $158.4 million opening-weekend record of 'The Dark Knight.'

It takes a powerful wizard to defeat "The Dark Knight," but based on early media reports, all indications are that the final episode in the onscreen Harry Potter saga, "Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows, Part 2," is on track to beat the $158.4 million opening-weekend record set by "The Dark Knight" in 2008.

Thanks to a combination of breathless, nostalgic anticipation for the last installment in the series, a raft of sold-out midnight screenings on Thursday and higher ticket prices for the first 3-D installment in the $6 billion franchise, experts are predicting that a series of records could fall by Sunday.

According to Deadline.com, the estimated two-day worldwide gross for "Deathly Hallows, Part 2" is at $142.7 million, with $82.5 million earned internationally from 43 countries, and roughly $60.2 million brought in domestically. The movie had already rolled up an estimated $45 million at the box office by Thursday before the doors had opened for a single showing.

To put that in perspective, it has already beat the $53 million that "Green Lantern" made over the course of its entire opening weekend last month.

"Potter" is opening in 4,575 theaters in the U.S. and Canada, and Deadline Hollywood predicted that based on the early tracking, it could smash the "Dark Knight" high-water mark and possibly reach $180 million in opening-weekend grosses. Another record almost sure to crumble is the biggest single day ever, which was set by "The Twilight Saga: New Moon," which pulled in $72 million, a figure that could be eclipsed (pun intended) by an estimated $80 million that "Hallows" is projected to collect between the $40 million in midnight screenings and an additional $40 million on Friday.

Look for "Hallows" to also take the biggest foreign opening-weekend crown, a record recently set by "Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides," which boosted $260 million earlier this summer. "Potter" studio Warner Bros. expects the film to smash that figure, though it's unclear if it will be able to beat the worldwide seven-day opening-gross mark set by "Transformers: Dark of the Moon," which raked in $402 million in its first week in June.

A good sign, though, is that "Hallows" has already broken records Down Under. The Hollywood Reporter noted that following its midnight opening on Wednesday, it took in more than $7.4 million in its first 24 hours in Australia, smashing the previous mark of nearly $1.8 million in the first 24 hours for "Lord of the Rings: Return of the King."

Video App Demo: VideoBot Camera

videobotDo you find it hard to sort through the videos on your iOS device? Apple didn't give users any organizational tools to speak of, unless you count alphabetical sorting. The lack of folders or any method for making sense of your video library can be a pain, so VideoBot hopes to make it easier.

Chief among the features in VideoBot is the ability to add tags to videos and sort them accordingly. A nice touch if you happen to carry a lot of videos on your iOS device. It will also allow you to record videos and add metadata to them, with a few bells and whistles to help improve your recordings (like a rule-of-thirds overlay). Check out the video for a full walkthrough.

There are iPhone and iPad versions of VideoBot Camera.

Hey kids, this is just a note to let you know that I’ve decided (after not that much consideration) to put this bad boy to rest. You see, it started out as a really fun hobby, and it was a really fun hobby for a really long time (2 years, 1 month and 2 days to be exact) but somewhere along the lines, it stopped being a fun hobby and started feeling like a burdensome chore that I didn’t enjoy at all. And I’m a firm believer that if you don’t enjoy something, you shouldn’t do it anymore (well, ifread more and hear the song

App Store downloads overtake iTunes music downloads

Right after Apple's announcement that App Store downloads had passed 15 billion, Asymco ran some numbers and concluded that App Store downloads have surpassed iTunes music downloads. Asymco based its conclusion on Apple's announcement only one month earlier that iTunes song downloads had passed 15 billion. Since App Store downloads have grown at a far faster rate than music downloads over the life of both stores, Asymco's most likely correct that app downloads have passed song downloads.

According to Asymco's data, app downloads amount to at least 31 million per month, while around 12 million songs are downloaded each month. That's an explosive rate of growth for the App Store, especially since it took nearly seven years for music downloads to pass 15 billion while app downloads passed the same milestone in three years.

To get a visual idea of how quickly the App Store's taken off compared to music downloads, head to Asymco and check out the data graphs. But while you're there, try not to snicker at the tiny orange line representing iBooks downloads...

MacBook Air rumor roundup: More RAM, bigger SSD, launch next week

Various sites have been abuzz with rumors surrounding the launch of the next-gen MacBook Air, which many speculators expected to hit the market this week. AllThingsD has now weighed in on these rumors, citing "several sources" who claim the MacBook Air will not launch until late next week at the earliest.

AllThingsD's sources also confirmed the widespread rumors that the MacBook Air will feature a return to backlit keyboards, a Thunderbolt port, and more powerful "Sandy Bridge" processors from Intel. The new MacBook Air is also rumored to have its base RAM and SSD capacity bumped up, with 128 GB now the baseline capacity and 4 GB the new minimum RAM. This will be welcome news to potential buyers; the 11" MacBook Air's base specs of 64 GB SSD and 2 GB RAM seemed a little anemic. While you could pay more to upgrade both pieces of hardware, it seems you may not have to with the next-gen product.

The MacBook Air's hardware has reportedly been ready to launch for quite some time, but sources indicated that Apple held off on launching the hardware until Lion's public launch. Alongside rumors that Lion will not launch until next week, AllThingsD's sources on the "late next week" launch of the MacBook Air seem to be on the right track.

Beyonce Shrugs Off 'Fear' In 'Year Of 4'

'I've never been afraid to fall,' she says in the special, which debuted Thursday on MTV.

It's a good time to be Beyoncé. The singer just released her latest album, 4, and fans were taken behind the scenes of its completion in the special "Beyoncé: Year of 4," which debuted Thursday (June 30) on MTV.

The intimate special opens with black-and-white footage of the singer swimming. "I'm always happy when I'm surrounded by water," she says. "I think I'm a mermaid or I was a mermaid. The ocean makes me feel really small, and it puts my whole life into perspective. ... It humbles you and it grounds you and it makes me feel almost like I've been baptized. Am I the same Beyoncé? Absolutely not."

The special is footage of B's life, complete with montages of the frenzy surrounding her: Video shoots, rehearsals, studio time and photo shoots all pepper her life as she prepares to release her fourth solo studio effort. However, she is quick to point out that, before she got back to work, she needed to decompress in a major way.

"After I finished the last tour, I was a bit overwhelmed and overworked, and my mother was the person that preached to me ... 'You really need to live your life and open your eyes and you don't want to wake up with no memories,' " she explained.

Beyoncé shows what she did on her off-time, which included playing aunt and wife. "I was able to spend time with my family and pick my nephew up from school, and it gave me time to reflect," she said.

In that reflection time, Beyoncé made a major business decision: Her father, Mathew Knowles, would no longer serve as her manager. While explaining the decision, fans are taken back in time thanks to vintage video of the Knowles family. "A real change meant separating from him," she said. "It was scary, but it empowered me, and I wasn't going to let fear stop me."

Fans are once again on Beyoncé's whirlwind world tour as she continues work on her album. "I am a workaholic, and I don't believe in 'no,' " she said. "If I'm not sleeping, nobody's sleeping."

"My focus is not bigger; it's quality, and I want to make sure it's something I'm proud of years from now," she says later on. "It's very difficult managing myself. Every night when I go to sleep, I ask hundreds of questions. I'm making mistakes, and I'm learning from them. I've never been afraid to fall — and I say all these things, but now I'm being tested."

As the special closes, Beyoncé shoots her "Run the World (Girls)" video and continues work on her album, including meetings with record executives. It all ends with B swimming once again, as she says, "I'm learning to drown out the noise. I only have to follow my heart. I run my world."

Hypem Hunting vol. 15 ? Far

It’s been a while since we last played the world’s best and most likely only game involving a music blog aggregator’s search function, Hypem Hunting. In fact, I think it’s been about a month, which is pretty bad considering I was doing them weekly for a while. But alas, here we are again. This week’s theme is “far”, mainly because that was this week’s fairly common word that I picked. Here are the songs that I found.

Now, normally I say that the beauty of this is that I find songs that I probably never would have heard otherwise, read more and hear the song

iPhone 4 captures guitar strings in action

This is one of the slickest iPhone 4 videos I've seen in a long time. A guitarist (justkylevids on YouTube) apparently wondered what it was like being inside his guitar while playing, so he dropped his iPhone 4 in with the video camera running and captured this incredible video.

The effect you see is mesmerizing, but not really representative of the way that guitar strings actually oscillate. Instead, it's another example of how the iPhone 4's rolling shutter can create some interesting photos and video. Still, it's fun to watch.

'Boyz N The Hood' Stars Hailed 'Classic Movie' Back In 1991

MTV News looks back on our interview with the all-star cast and director as the South Central L.A. tale was hitting theaters 20 years ago.
By Rob Markman

In a 1991 interview with MTV News to promote the just-released "Boyz N the Hood," Laurence Fishburne seemed to know what kind of impact the coming-of-age story would have. "John Singleton has made a classic movie," the actor said. Twenty years later, fans are still singing its praises.

This past Tuesday, "Boyz N the Hood" celebrated its 20-year anniversary, and on July 19, the film will be re-released in Blu-ray format. The film, starring Ice Cube, Cuba Gooding Jr., Morris Chestnut and Laurence Fishburne, is set in South Central, Los Angeles, a California neighborhood notorious for gang violence.

At the center of the film is Tre Styles (Gooding Jr.), who tries to balance his father's (Fishburne) life lessons with the harsh realities of the 'hood in which he lived. Then there are half-brothers Doughboy (Cube) and Ricky Baker (Chestnut), two characters who couldn't be more different. Doughboy, a stone-cold gangster, has street respect but very few prospects. His brother Ricky, however, is a young father and a star high school football player fielding sports scholarships from multiple colleges. In the end, Ricky's bright future is brought to a dark close when he's gunned down in an alleyway.

"Well, this is the film that I initially went to film school to make," director Singleton explained to MTV News in the same 1991 interview, days after the film hit theaters. "I had never seen films that reflected where I was coming from growing up in L.A."

"There are so many messages in the film, but if they go and take one message away, it's to keep the love in the family. As long as the love is circulating around, it'll be OK," Gooding Jr. said.

"It's a new kind of perspective," Fishburne added.

Even Cube, who made his Hollywood debut in "Boyz N the Hood," knew back then that the movie would be impactful. "I think we got a real good film. Just to show black people on the screen being people and not just images, as far as not a sports player or a hat and a gun," he said. "You fall in love with these characters, and it's real deep when something happens to them."

And that's why 20 years later, we're still watching.
