Lady Gaga, Beyonce, Other Stars Make Forbes' Top-Earning Of 2010 List

Taylor Swift, Britney Spears and Miley Cyrus also made the magazine's top 20 list of Hollywood moneymakers.

On the East Coast, revenue streams are slowly rising as banks are still cratering and trying to recover from the recession. But out West, money ain't a thing, as Jermaine Dupri and Jay-Z once rapped.

Forbes has released their list of Hollywood's 20 Highest Earners of 2010, with Beyoncé, Lady Gaga and Miley Cyrus among those rubbing elbows with the likes of power players like Oprah Winfrey.

The venerable talk-show host topped the list with a whopping $315 million haul. Winfrey's earnings were generated for the most part by her multimedia deals, which include a syndication deal for her TV show, a magazine and her soon-to-be-launched network.

"Avatar" creator James Cameron came in second, more than $100 million behind Winfrey, with a tally of $210 million. Director and playwright Tyler Perry ($125 million), blockbuster movie producer Michael Bay ($120 million) and golfer Tiger Woods ($105 million) rounded out the top five.

Beyoncé was the only pop star to break the top 10. The "Single Ladies" superstar landed at #9, sandwiched between George Lucas and Dr. Phil. Mrs. Carter, whose hubby, Jay-Z, was named Hip-Hop's Cash King by Forbes in August with a tally of $63 million, pulled down $87 million over the past 12 months.

The blond-haired trio of Britney Spears ($64 million), Lady Gaga ($62 million) and Madonna ($58 million) made their mark on the list at numbers 13, 14 and 15, respectively.

Pop tarts Miley Cyrus and Taylor Swift capped the list. The young stars placed at 18 and 19 on the list, with Disney star Cyrus pocketing $48 million, and country singer Swift depositing $45 million into her bank account.

Hollywood's 20 highest-earning men and women of 2010, according to Forbes:

1. Oprah Winfrey, $315 million
2. James Cameron, $210 million
3. Tyler Perry, $125 million
4. Michael Bay, $120 million
5. Tiger Woods, $105 million
6. Jerry Bruckheimer, $100 million
7. Steven Spielberg, $100 million
8. George Lucas, $95 million
9. Beyoncé, $87 million
10. Dr. Phil, $80 million
11. Simon Cowell, $80 million
12. Jerry Seinfeld, $75 million
13. Britney Spears, $64 million
14. Lady Gaga, $62 million
15. Madonna, $58 million
16. Sandra Bullock, $56 million
17. Ellen DeGeneres, $55 million
18. Miley Cyrus, $48 million
19. Taylor Swift, $45 million
20. Judge Judy Sheindlin, $45 million

LaunchBar 5 gives powerful launching options, on sale

LaunchBar is a smart launcher, which learns from your habits and patterns to help you work more efficiently.

Until midnight tomorrow (Sunday, eastern time) MacUpdate Promo has LaunchBar on sale for $17.50, which is 50% off the usual price.

I love LaunchBar because it's smart. For example, I use Mailplane instead of Mail.app, and LaunchBar has learned this, so when I trigger LaunchBar and type the letter 'm' it shows me Mailplane. If I type 't' it shows me Twitterrific but if I type 'te' it shows me iTerm.

It doesn't just let you launch apps either, you can also launch Preference Panes, create new events in iCal, search your address book (one of my favorite 'tricks': search for someone in my addressbook, navigate to their their phone number, and then press Enter. LaunchBar will show the phone number "full screen" like so:

You can also copy Address Book information from LaunchBar, use it to begin email messages, and more.

Using the "Instant Send" feature, I can select a file in Finder, then trigger LaunchBar and press "Command" twice (you can choose from several key commands to trigger Instant Send), and LaunchBar will offer to open the file in whatever application I search for next, similar to if you had right clicked on the file, chosen 'Open With' but your hands never touched the mouse. If you 'open with' your mail client, it will create a new message with the file attached. Or maybe you have an image that normally opens with Preview but you want to edit it in Pixelmator; Instant Send makes it easier and quicker.

LaunchBar also has a built-in calculator and clipboard history. Do you use search engines? LaunchBar will let you create searches right from within itself. It comes with a slew of search engines built in, and adding your own is simple.

Quite simply, LaunchBar is one of my absolutely essential applications. I've tried the others, and I always come back to LaunchBar.

See previous TUAW coverage of LaunchBar.

Lady Gaga 'Born This Way' Producer 'Blown Away' By Video

Fernando Garibay marvels to MTV News at how Gaga has combined 'the imagery, the dance' and the song's message.
By Jocelyn Vena

On Monday (February 28), Lady Gaga released the video for "Born This Way." In the Nick Knight-directed clip, she explores a new life form that doesn't judge and certainly doesn't hate. Full of trippy alien-birth scenes, many costume changes and even an appearance by a unicorn, the video is Gaga's "manifesto" on embracing people of all types.

The video — styled by Nicola Formichetti and choreographed by Laurieann Gibson — is essentially a visual representation of Gaga's dance anthem about celebrating our differences. The song was co-produced by Gaga, White Shadow and Fernando Garibay, and Garibay stopped by the MTV News offices on Monday afternoon to talk about the new clip.

"Well, I've seen pieces. We were privy to watching her make the video and stuff, and as we were watching her do the choreography and everything, we were just blown away, of course," he said. "It's amazing. Her talent, I mean, she's so talented, but in combining the imagery, the dance and how it's expressed with the song is truly amazing."

Garibay was so "blown away" he reiterated that he was still processing the dark, rainbow-colored clip. "I'm still blown away by it. I saw it this morning and I was like, 'Wow.' "

Gaga seems to push the boundaries with each video, redefining what it means to be a pop star. And according to Garibay, that's just Gaga.

"I can't really speak for her but what I've noticed is, yeah, she's extremely conscious of these things," he explained. "You have to be for that ... level of artistic expression; you really have to know yourself and be confident of the message you're going to portray, and it's very genuine to her."

What did you think of the "Born This Way" video? We want to hear from you in the comments section!

All in all, today (which by the time you read this will be yesterday) was a pretty good day. To quote St. Vincent, “Nobody got shot, nobody’s car got stolen…it really was a good day.” But seriously – a not too bad day at work, a booked flight to Coachella, and a nice workout at the gym immediately followed by a trip to the record store where I picked up albums by Wavves, Blonde Redhead, Hall & Oates, The Velvet Underground, Duran Duran and Michael Jackson. Florence And The Machine Drew On 'Emotional' '127 Hours' At Oscars

'When the song comes, it's a very emotional moment,' Florence Welch says of 'If I Rise' before live performance.

Florence Welch wasn't a nominee at the 83rd Annual Academy Awards on Sunday (February 27), but the breakout music star approached the evening as if she were up for a trophy.

Welch, who stepped in to help sing Dido's portion of Best Original Song nominee "If I Rise" (from "127 Hours"), talked to MTV News on the Oscar red carpet about her responsibility to do the song from the Best Picture nominee justice.

"When the song comes, it's a very emotional moment," said the Florence and the Machine frontwoman, who was making her Academy Awards debut. "It's the moment when James Franco's ... character realizes what he has to do."

Best Picture nominee "127 Hours" chronicles real-life hiker Aron Ralston's harrowing story of survival, including his decision to amputate his own arm when faced with possible death on a hiking trip. Clearly a fan of the film, Welch recalled her experience of watching the film.

"You know what's going to happen, but you're with him from the very beginning," the red-haired songstress said of Franco's portrayal, which also earned the Oscar host a nod for Best Actor.

In spite of the not-easy-to-watch moments in director Danny Boyle's film, Welch described the scene in which "If I Rise" begins to play "actually, a very calm moment."

Drawing inspiration from the movie and that particular moment scene, Welch told us she prepared to perform live alongside Oscar winner A.R. Rahman — he penned the song with Dido and Rollo Armstrong — by telling herself to "try and be calm."

As for Florence and the Machine fans, the singer told us they can expect new music very soon. "Right now, I'm just working on my second album," she said. But while many are still hoping Florence and the Machine will wind up on the upcoming "Breaking Dawn" soundtrack (they appeared on the "Eclipse" soundtrack), Welch confirmed that she hasn't been called to contribute to the project yet.

Ron Sugar wins board member popularity contest

OK, weekend pop quiz! Quick, who's the most popular member of the Apple board with shareholders? Head-scratching allowed, coffee may be taken, think hard, no taking peeks at the illustration or headline here...Well, if you answered 'Steve Jobs', you're probably human. And if you're an anonymous financial institution you answered 'Ronald Sugar.'

Since anonymous financial institutions outweigh humans more than two-to-one when it comes to owning Apple shares, the most popular Apple director is, as reported by Fortune's Apple 2.0, Ronald Sugar. The former CEO of aerospace company Northrop Grumman joined Apple in November to replace Jerry York, who died last March and Google's Eric Schmidt, who left in 2009.

As you can see from the table taken from the SEC form 8-K filed last Thursday, Steve Jobs was re-elected to the board of Apple with nearly 3.5 million votes less than were cast for Ronald Sugar -- and that, as before, Andrea Jung was the least popular board member.

We probably shouldn't read too much into the voting -- 70% of Apple shares are held by financial institutions, and 4.8 million votes were cast against re-electing Steve Jobs to the board at all.

Britney Spears Teases Femme Fatale's 'I Wanna Go'

Spears tweets link to song clip, produced by Max Martin and Shellback.

As fans get closer to the March 29 release of Britney Spears' latest album, Femme Fatale, more teasers of tracks off the Dr. Luke/Max Martin executive-produced album are hitting the Web.

On Tuesday (February 22), Spears tweeted a link to a 29-second clip of "I Wanna Go," calling Martin "amazing." The song kicks off with a thumping beat, as the melody plays lightly over it. Brit's staccato vocals — "I wanna go-o-o all the way-ay-ay" — enter as the teaser fades out.

The song was co-produced and written by Shellback, who recently worked with Spears on "If U Seek Amy" and "3." He also hooked up with Usher for "DJ Got Us Fallin' in Love," Robyn on "Time Machine" and Avril Lavigne for "What The Hell."

Thus far, all the tracks Spears has revealed in anticipation of the release of Femme Fatale have been club bangers. Last week, she released the dark, sleek video for her lead single, "Hold It Against Me," and days later, she teased her next single, "Inside Out."

"In my opinion, this is her strongest album ever," her manager, Larry Rudolph, told MTV News about the March 29 release. "It's somewhat of a departure from what she's done. It's more mature. It's more of a dance record."

Are you looking forward to the release of Femme Fatale? Tell us below!

Michael Jackson Doctor Ordered Hundreds Of Bottles Of Propofol

Also during the preliminary hearing Monday, judge rules that evidence from Dr. Conrad Murray's phone can be used.
By Gil Kaufman

One thing became clear during testimony in the preliminary hearing of Dr. Conrad Murray on Monday (January 10) in Los Angeles: The cardiologist ordered a lot of the powerful anesthetic propofol in the months before his client Michael Jackson's death.

Los Angeles County Coroner's officials determined that the pop star died of a lethal dose of the surgical anesthetic in June 2009. Jackson's personal physician, Dr. Conrad Murray, has admitted that he administered propofol to the singer in the hours before Jackson's passing.

And while Murray's lawyers have said that their client did not do anything that "should have" caused Jackson's death and may be preparing a defense in which they will claim that it was Jackson himself that administered the fatal dose, during continuing testimony in the second week of Murray's pretrial hearing on involuntary manslaughter charges, it became clear that there was plenty of propofol around.

According to TMZ, pharmacist Tim Lopez of Las Vegas Applied Pharmacy Services — Murray has offices and a home in Las Vegas — testified that Murray ordered more than 250 vials of propofol in the two months before Jackson's death. The drug is intended for use in a clinical setting during surgery where equipment is on hand to monitor blood pressure and oxygen levels.

Investigators executed search warrants on Murray's Las Vegas home and office, as well as Applied Pharmacy, in summer 2009 in search of evidence connected to an investigation into Jackson's death. The coroner's investigation reported that 12 vials of propofol were found in the bedroom and closet of Jackson's rented mansion after his death, and last week, one of the singer's bodyguards testified that in the moments before a 911 call was placed, Murray asked him to help put medical evidence in a bag, including vials that appeared to contain a milky substance that resembled propofol.

Jackson, a chronic insomniac, allegedly used propofol as a sleep aid, and according to Lopez's testimony, from the time Murray came onboard as Jackson's physician in April until the singer's death, the doctor ordered 130 vials of propofol in 100-millileter doses and another 125 in 20-millileter vials, as well as more than 40 vials of the sedative Versed and the anti-anxiety drug Ativan, which, like the propofol, was sent to Murray's girlfriend's home in Santa Monica, California, where he was staying while caring for Jackson. According to The Associated Press, Murray told Lopez the Santa Monica address was for one of the doctor's clinics.

Also on Monday, the judge in the case, Michael Pastor, ruled that recently obtained data from Murray's iPhone can be admitted as evidence in the case. The evidence reportedly includes a handful of voicemails and 12 screenshots.

The AP reported that a retired federal investigator testified on Monday that he retrieved e-mail from Murray's cell phone that included an exchange between the doctor and a London insurance broker who was handling the policy for Jackson's planned series of "This Is It" comeback shows. On the morning of Jackson's death, the broker asked Murray to respond to reports that the 50-year-old singer was in poor health. "As far as the statements of his health published by the press, let me say they're all malicious to the best of my knowledge," Murray replied.

So far, prosecutors have used phone records and testimony from police and Murray's current and former girlfriends to create a timeline that shows that the doctor was on the phone throughout the morning of Jackson's death, including the time after he administered the last of several doses that morning of propofol to the pop star. Previous testimony has focused on Murray's botched attempts to deliver CPR to Jackson, the delay in calling 911 and the belief by paramedics that the "Thriller" singer was already dead when they transported him to a local hospital.

The preliminary hearing to determine if there is enough evidence to bring Murray to trial is expected to last around two weeks. Murray has pleaded not guilty to a felony charge of involuntary manslaughter, which could land him in prison for up to four years.

Melissa Leo Drops F-Bomb While Accepting Best Supporting Actress Oscar

Presenter Kirk Douglas nearly stole the show until the 'Fighter' star made her memorable speech.
By Brian Warmoth

Melissa Leo accepts the award for Actress in a Supporting Role
Photo: Kevin Winter/Getty Images

Melissa Leo sparked some pre-Oscar controversy with her last-minute advertisements in major Hollywood trades, but in the end, nothing could disrupt the Best Supporting Actress nominee's momentum from her wins at the Golden Globes, Screen Actors Guild Awards and Critics Choice Awards. In the end, the two-time nominee beat out Amy Adams and Helena Bonham Carter to make the 50-year-old star and her part in "The Fighter" one of the night's biggest stories.

Kirk Douglas stole the show for a few minutes before presenting Leo's award, which crowned her role as Mark Wahlberg and Christian Bale's mother with a golden statue. A heavy favorite, thanks to her previous honors in the last few months, Leo also beat out young contender Hailee Steinfeld and Jacki Weaver, who was nominated for "Animal Kingdom."

But it was Leo's own speech that was being referred to for the rest of the night, thanks to her nervous slip-up.

"Yeah, I am kind of speechless; golly sakes, there's people up there too," Leo marveled, waving at the audience in the mezzanine. "When I watched Kate two years ago, it looked so f---ing easy!"

Luckily, ABC had enough of a broadcast time delay to bleep out her F-bomb, but that hasn't stopped it from being an instant classic acceptance speech.

After being passed up in 2009 for her performance in the comparatively small art-house film "Frozen River," Leo walked off the stage with international recognition for her much bigger box office success story.

Leo's belief in her character Alice Ward propelled her through the final weeks of Oscar voting. Her decision to launch ads personally, reportedly without consulting "Fighter" distributors Paramount and Relativity, stirred up headlines as voters were finalizing their picks, but whether or not she managed to sway the Academy into her corner or already had their attention won't make any difference now that she has the Oscar.

Shortly after Leo's win, Bale also took home the Supporting Actor prize.

3D music video was shot with two iPhone 4s

Forget about the Android-powered LG Optimus 3D with its fancy 3D camera, all you need to make a 3D video is a couple of people, two iPhone 4s, and a healthy dose of enthusiasm for filming. The folks at Atomic Cheesecake productions were up to the challenge and put together a 3D music video recorded entierly using the iPhone 4 and its five-megapixel camera.

The 3d indie video aficiandos put together a semi-fancy rig to align the two iPhone 4s so they could record video and combine the two streams to create a 3D effect. The cameras on the pair of iPhones were controlled by the Almost DSLR app which gives your precise control over the individual settings of the camera. A little bit of post-processing to perfect the 3D and director Ryan Suits has an interesting and innovative video.

The video was produced for musician Luke Hagendorf who is using it for his song Changes We Don't Understand. The 3D video requires those red and cyan glasses to enjoy the full 3D effect but, with or without galsses, you can check out his 3D test video and the music video after the break. Enjoy!

Verizon CEO: iPhone 4 sales strong, more coming from Apple on LTE

In a recent interview, Verizon Wireless CEO Dan Mead rebutted recent reports suggesting Verizon iPhone sales were low by confirming the wireless carrier sold more iPhone 4s during its initial launch than any other product in the carrier's history. Mead would not divulge the actual numbers, but he confirmed these sales figures would be released during the carrier's next quarterly report.

The Verizon iPhone launch was characterized by fewer and shorter lines at both the carrier's retail outlets and Apple stores. According to Mead, this was not a reflection of low demand, but the carrier's plan to stagger the launch.

"It was a conscious decision to spread the launch over three phases," said Mead, who also confirmed that 60% of iPhone sales were processed online. Verizon held two pre-sale opportunities on February 3 and 9 and kicked off the official launch on February 10.

Besides the iPhone 5, Mead hinted that Apple was interested in LTE technology and working on devices compatible with Verizon's 4G network. Mead said, "You'll see more coming from Apple on LTE. They understand the value proposition of LTE and I feel very confident that they are going to be a part of it."

Apple recently addressed LTE, and COO Tim Cook confirmed the Cupertino company is not ready to adopt this 4G technology. Speaking at the Verizon iPhone launch, Cook said, "the first-generation LTE chipsets force some design compromises, some of which we wouldn't make."

Hopefully Apple can work with chipset manufacturers to iron out these kinks, and we can look forward to 4G speeds combined with Apple's solid hardware and slick mobile OS.

Andre 3000 Pops Up On Ke$ha's 'Sleazy' Remix

Outkast MC freshens up the pop star's Cannibal cut with rare feature.
By Mawuse Ziegbe

It seems the only way to find spankin'-new Andre 3000 lyrics these days is on the odd remix, and the ATLien definitely picked a left-of-center choice for his latest feature.

On Friday (January 14), a remix of Ke$ha's Cannibal track "Sleazy" hit the Web, outfitted with some brand-new bars from the elusive Outkast MC. The southern spitter uses the revamp to muse about a young kid dealing with a deadbeat dad over the song's bouncy thump.

"We start out so cute in our baby pictures/ That mama shot for our daddy so that he wouldn't forget you/ He forgot anyway, but hey, one day he'll remember/ If not, he's human, I'm human, you human, we'll forgive him," he spits.

After sounding off about daddy issues, Stacks then rhymes about his playful relationship with the glitter-friendly poptress.

"I call her Keisha, she like it because it's hood to her/ She call me Andre 6000 because I'm good to her," he says.

The remix follows a slew of random guest appearances on records by everyone from DJ Unk to Rich Boy as fans await another full-length release from 'Dre. Back in 2008, the Love Below lyricist broke down his affinity for jumping on the occasional remix to MTV News, explaining that cooking up another quality solo record is no easy task.

"I've been doing remixes here and there, and let me tell you, thank God for remixes. I wanna tell everybody who's been checking out the remixes and things like the John Legend song ['Green Light']: In this day and age, those are the things that have kind of been keeping me alive. Because it takes me awhile to record albums," he said. "I have to kind of build up something to say."

David Cross Pessimistic About 'Arrested Development' Movie Prospects

'I'll believe it when I see it,' Cross says at the Independent Spirit Awards.
By Brian Warmoth, with reporting by Josh Horowitz

David Cross

An "Arrested Development" movie may be a priority in the eyes of former exec producer Ron Howard and creator Mitch Hurwitz, but David Cross doesn't sound confident that that's enough to make it happen.

Cross thinks the film's premise sounds "awesome" and knows that many of his former castmates want to get the cameras rolling, but as of Saturday night at the Independent Spirit Awards, he didn't expect to be playing Tobias Fünke again anytime soon.

"I'll believe it when I see it," Cross told MTV News.

Howard and company have been discussing the possibility of putting the Fox comedy on the big screen for years, but every time a wave of optimism starts gaining steam, someone comes out to express doubt. This time around, that person is Cross, and it will likely take more than a phone call from Hurwitz or Michael Cera's positive attitude to convince him that the "Arrested Development" movie will ever exist.

"Not even when I'm standing there shooting it," Cross said. "Not even when it's wrapped. Not even when I get to go do [automated dialogue replacement]. Not even when I'm at the theater and it's playing. The next day — that's when I'll believe it."

So, how long will it be before producers are putting Cross on that long road toward making him a believer?

"I have no idea," he said.

Cera, Will Arnett and Jason Bateman have all come out in favor of pushing ahead with the movie, but even if Hurwitz believes production can begin in 2011, Cross needs proof.

"OK, great! Show me," he said. "There's, like, nine people involved."

Basically, if fans of the show want reassurance that the logistics required to bring everyone back are feasible, they won't find it in an interview with Cross. The "Kung Fu Panda 2" and "Megamind" actor just doesn't have faith right now, even if he would love to see "Arrested Development" return.

"I'm realistically optimistic," he confessed, "which is to say, not that optimistic."

<lyrics>

Tu la voyais pas comme a ta vie,
Pas d'attach-case quand t'tais p'tit,
Ton corps enferm, costume crtin,
T'imaginais pas, j'sais bien.
Moi aussi j'en ai rv des rves. Tant pis.
Tu la voyais grande et c'est une toute petite vie.
Tu la voyais pas comme a, l'histoire :
Toi, t'tais tempte et rocher noir.
Mais qui t'a cass ta boule de cristal,
Cass tes envies, rendu banal ?
T'es moche en moustache, en laides sandales,
T'es cloche en bancal, p'tit caporal de centre commercial.

{Refrain:}
Tu la voyais pas comme a frrot
Doucement ta vie t'as mis K.-O.
T'avais huit ans quand tu t'voyais

On va tous pareils, moyen, moyen...

Justin Bieber's Next Album To Capture Justin Timberlake's Magic

Songwriter Sean Garrett says former 'NSYNC star's success inspires Bieber's new project and also dishes on Beyoncé's album.

Justin Bieber may have declined the chance to join Justin Timberlake's label, but according to a songwriter in the know, the former 'NSYNC crooner is the inspiration for the teen sensation's upcoming album.

Songwriter Sean "The Pen "Garrett, who has been working with Bieber on the follow-up to the chart-ruling My World 2.0., spoke with Billboard about the direction for the teen superstar's forthcoming album, saying the project will feature more grown-up fare.

"What we're trying to do with Justin is to segue him into young adulthood," Garrett said of the project, which is also slated to feature production from hitmaker Christopher "Tricky" Stewart. "The one great thing about Justin Bieber is the fact that his fans are going to grow with him. So we want all the fans that started out with him to still be intrigued and excited about him, but we want to also stretch out a little bit and make the fans that are 22-23 years old love Justin as well. When Justin Timberlake went from the last album of *N Sync to his first solo album -- I want to say [we're aiming for] that level. That's the bar for the type of song, that level of 'Cry Me a River,' big records."

Garrett, who has crafted records for stars like Chris Brown and Bieber's mentor Usher, also said he's hard at work on Beyoncé's next project. However, the songwriter didn't divulge too much information, only revealing that he's "been working with her extremely hard ... she's my favorite."

While Garrett said the plan for his next outing is to angle Bieber toward a swiftly maturing audience, Bieber himself has refused to categorize his music, insisting to MTV News in December that he's just focused on creating quality records.

"Whatever comes out of my mouth is just what you guys are going to hear," Bieber explained of his hits. "I don't know, it's not a specific type of music. Whatever music I write, I wouldn't say I'm pop or R&B or country or anything: I would just say it's just good music,"
